Okkomaruオッコマル

A monster chess game in low-poly 3D, with the soul of the PS1.

Creatures hatch from eggs, evolve and battle on a board. Each turn, only one Okkomaru moves and acts, and each team protects its own egg.

The game

Board tactics, one turn at a time

Single-player against the AI, first on Windows and then on the web and mobile. Every victory takes you further across Okkokai, the world of the Okko.

  1. Every move counts

Only one Okkomaru acts per turn. Move, attack or cast a spell: every choice changes the board.

  2. Attack or defend the egg

Break the rival's egg or defeat the whole team. But whoever pushes too far leaves their own egg exposed.

  3. Collect, train and evolve

Victories earn Okkoins, items and new Okkomaru. Hatch eggs, train stats and evolve every creature.

  4. PS1 nostalgia

Raw polygons, jagged textures and a camera orbiting the board, just the way we remember it.

The name

The little protected one that hatched from an egg

Pronounced ohk-koh-MAH-roo, the name joins two Japanese words.

okko っ子

"child of, born in"

the young one, the hatchling

maru 丸

"round", an affectionate and protective suffix

little round one, dear, protected

Every species ends in -maru, like Flamaru, Tidemaru and Kagemaru. Their world is called Okkokai (界, "world").

Elements

Six elements, no tricks

Four elements form a cycle, and Light and Shadow are strong against each other. With the advantage, damage is multiplied by 1.5. With the disadvantage, by 0.75.
